The Bears are seeking a big culture shift after firing Matt Eberflus.
Cleveland Browns advisor Mike Vrabel watches the team during practice.
The Chicago Bears are in the market for a new head coach since firing Matt
Eberflus over the weekend, and it looks like a few candidates have already
started to separate from the pack.
Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer said former Tennessee Titans head coach
Mike Vrabel
is one of the top candidates for the Bears' head coaching position. Vrabel
led the Titans from 2018 to 2023, leading them to the playoffs three times
in six seasons. Under his guidance, Tennessee reached the AFC Championship
Game in the 2019 season, where they were defeated by the eventual Super Bowl
champion Kansas City Chiefs. But Vrabel was let go after the Titans ended
last season 6–11.
Since then, Vrabel has worked as a coaching and personnel consultant for
the Cleveland Browns, while also interviewing for the New York Jets' head
coaching job. So it's looking like a good possibility that Vrabel will be
back as an NFL head coach in 2025.
Breer said on Inside the
NFL that, if Vrabel does
get the job in Chicago, his offensive coordinator preference would be either
Tommy Rees, Browns' pass game specialist and tight ends coach, or Josh
McDaniels, the former Las Vegas Raiders head coach. The latter was a
longtime New England Patriots offensive coordinator.
It remains to be seen who Bears general manager Ryan Poles will hire as
head coach for the 2025 season, but whoever it is, they will face an
enormous job in trying to get the program right. After taking Caleb Williams
with the No. 1 pick, the Bears have underwhelmed this season, going a
disappointing 4–10. This team has had a run of coaches that have simply not
worked, and there's little doubt the fans are clamoring for a change..
